Croeso i dudalen Criw Cymraeg 2025/2026

    Haia! Sut wyt ti? 👋

We are the Criw Cymraeg, a group of pupils who help promote the Welsh language across Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn.  Our role is to encourage everyone in our school community to use and enjoy Welsh every day – not just in the classroom, but also around the school in the corridors, on the playground and when speaking with friends.

As members of the Criw Cymraeg, we work hard to make Welsh fun and visible throughout the school. Each day we help to lead short sessions in our classes where we play games, practise useful vocabulary and recap the Brawddeg yr Wythnos (Sentence of the Week). This helps everyone become more confident using simple Welsh phrases in everyday situations.

We also speak to the junior children during assemblies, where we share ideas and encourage everyone to challenge themselves to use more Welsh with their friends and teachers. These assemblies are a great opportunity to celebrate pupils who are making a special effort to Siarad Cymraeg.

Ysgol Pen-y-Bryn is currently working towards the Silver Award as part of the Cymraeg Campus programme, which aims to increase the use of Welsh in schools across Wales. As Criw Cymraeg, we play an important role in helping the school achieve this by promoting Welsh language activities, encouraging pupils to use Welsh naturally throughout the day, and helping to organise events that celebrate Welsh language and culture.

To support families at home, we also share the Brawddeg yr Wythnos in the school newsletter so that parents and carers can practise these words and phrases with their children. If you would like to practise Welsh together at home, here are some helpful websites and apps:

    • BBC Bitesize – Fun games, videos and activities for learning Welsh.
    • SaySomethinginWelsh – Great for learning to speak Welsh through listening and repeating phrases.
    • Duolingo – A popular app where children and adults can learn Welsh through short daily challenges.
    • Cymraeg i Blant – Resources and support for families who want to introduce more Welsh at home.

Being part of Criw Cymraeg is a great responsibility and we are proud to help develop and celebrate the Welsh language in our school and our wider community.

So go on — have fun and Siarad Cymraeg!
